Abstract

The Lower Carbon steel is usually used for special need such as gear, needing the properties of special material that is part of surface contact to medium hardness ( 40 HRC) and also resistance of wear and the inner part has enough time worn elasticity. Getting the material within that characteristic will be difficult to be got and one way to get it is by doing carburization. Carburization which is an application of lowers carbon steel and a media of cocas powder, the warming temperature is about 930oC, the variation of time within 3, 5 and 7 hours. The experiment result shows the hardness improvement on the surface of specimens from 22, 03 HRC become 30, 13 HRC, 37, 43 HRC and 36, 5 HRC. And the carbon deepness from the surface is 60-80 μm.
