Abstract

The effectiveness of the entomopathogenic fungi isolates to cabbage head caterpillars Crocidolomia pavonana Fabricius ( Lepidoptera: Pyralidae) in relation mode of application Due to variation of pathogenicity commonly exhibit by different isolate of fungal pathogen when applied to the head cabbage caterpillars and other pests, laboratory tests of fungal pathogens successfully cultured in earlier study reported in other paper were carried out. The aims of this investigate were to know the effectiveness of fungal isolates in relation to mode of application. This experiment was conducted at Entomology and Phytopathology Laboratory Faculty of Agriculture, Andalas University from March to August 2006. A factorial and completely randomized design with two factors i.e. 3 mode of dissemination and seven isolated were tested to Cabbage head caterpillars. The result showed that significances (P=0.05) higher mortalities (78.33%) when the larvae were sprayed direct conidia and to their food than when exposed to their food or sprayed to the larva directly and caused the mortality 41.25% and 68.33 respectively. The LT50 value of Metarhizium and Fusarium against the larva was 1.81 day and 3.84 day respectively. The potential of this biological control justified research into the improvement of field application techniques of fungal pathogens are necessary for an economically viable and sustainable biological control of head cabbage caterpillars.
