Abstract
EFFECT OF MANURE APPLICATION ON SOME PHYSICAL PROPERTIES OF SOIL AND YIELD OF SWEET CORN (Zea mays saccharata Sturt) AT ENTISOL
ABSTRACT
Research on effect of manure application on some physical properties of soil and yield of sweet corn (Zea mays saccharata Sturt) at Entisol was conducted in glasshouse and laboratory of Faculty of Agriculture Department of Soil Science, Andalas University, Padang. This study was done from December 2010 until August 2011. This study was in form of experiment which was allocated as Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with four treatments and four replications. The data resulted were statistically analyzed. If the value of calculated F was greater than F table, the analyses was continued with Duncan's New Multiple Range Test (DNMRT) on 5% of significance level. Additionally, the data were also compared with the criterion. The treatments were three types of manure that was (A) = no manure, (B) = cow manure, (C) = chicken manure, (D) = goat manure. The results showed that the highest content of organic matter was found in goat manure treatment that was 6.64%, the lowest soil bulk density (1.31 g/cm3) and the highest total pore (48.14 %) were found in the treatment of chicken manure. The highest percentage of slow drainage pore(5.58 vol%), and the lowest fast drainage pore were found in cow manure treatment (29.21%). The highest available water pore (5.11 %) was found in the treatment of goat manure. N-total (0.49 %) of soil, the hight of the plant (203.25 cm), and the weight of corn cobs plus grains (126.15 g) were found to be highest in chicken manure treatment.
