Abstract

ANALYSIS OF FACTORS DETERMINING THE LOCATION SELECTION FOR RUBBER PROCESSING INDUSTRIES IN PADANG CITY ABSTRACT This research was conducted at three rubber processing industries in Padang City namely PT. Kilang Lima Gunung, PT. Lembah Karet and PT. Teluk Luas during the period from June to July 2013. The objectives of this study are to identify factors that determine the location selection for rubber processing industries in Padang City and identifying priority factors. The method used in this study is case study method. Priority factor was determined by using AHP (Analytical Hierarchy Process). The result of study showed that factors determining the location selection for rubber processing industries in Padang City are availability of infrastructure and support service, availability of resources, government intervention and ownership of land. Priority factors are the availability of support services and infrastructures namely contiguity to the port, adequate roadway and availability of banking service. It is recommended to the entrepreneurs who wanted establish new industry especially those industries yielding air pollution and waste to also take into consideration the society and environmental aspects in order of avoiding relocation. Local government should also consider to facilitate industrial development such as land clearing process as a way of developing industrial sector in the region.
