Abstract
Abstract. It has been conducted a research on a gel formulation of essential oils the kaffir
lime leaves (Citrus hystrix DC.) which is efficacious as antiacne against Propionibacteri
acnes bacteria. Kaffir lime leaf essential oils was formulated with a concentration of 6%
using two types of gel base, the HPMC with a concentration of 3%, 5%, 7% and Carbopol
940 with a concentration of 0.5%, 1%, 2% using propilenglikol, methyl paraben and ethanol
96% as additive. The evaluation of the formulas includes examining organoleptis,
homogeneity, pH, physical stability, skin irritation test, spreadibility and microbiology test.
Based on its evaluation data it was found that the formula using Carbopol 940 was better than
HPMC.
