Abstract
Abstract This paper is to know poverty characteristics of household in Padang Pariaman district. As the development goal to decrease poverty, it is needed comprehensive and local efforts. Identification of poverty characteristic in each region/district will help to plan poverty alleviation that suitable with local conditions. Data come from National Socio Economic Survey (Susenas kor) 2009 Padang Pariaman District. By using Foster-Greer-Thorbeck (FGT) method to find out poverty index. And Probit analysis to find out influence of characteristics to household poverty. Therefor the result shows that poverty index in Padang Pariaman district is 12.75, poverty index 1.90 and poverty severity index is 0.45. Characteristics that influence to decrease poverty risk are food consumption ratio, the household have healthy sanitarian, household that consumpt proteina three times a week, the house is private ownership, and energy to cook is electic/gas/kerosene. The characteristic that increase poverty risk are family members more than 4 persons, head of household have workhour less than 14 hours a week, floor not more than 8 square metre per person, head of household less than 35 years old, and household that use credit. Based on the result we suggest four strategies to alleviate poverty, they are strategy to increase proteina consumption, strategy of healthy house, strategy to increase workhours, and strategy sharpen family planning.
