Abstract

Synthesis and characterization of ZnO which blended with MnCl2 salt and preliminary test of its catalytic activity in the transesterification reaction has been carried out . MnCl2 salt with various molar dissolved in acetonitrile to form complexes of Mn ( II ) acetonitrile . The complex was blended with ZnO to form Mn ( II ) acetonitrile - ZnO . The characterization of the compound by Fourier transform Infra Red (FT – IR) showed the presence of CN vibrations in acetonitrile lead to the shifting that shows the interaction between the complex and ZnO . Catalyst stability test was carried out by stirring the catalyst with acetonitrile for 24 h . Leaching value of the catalyst metal is relatively small ( < 0.1 % ) showed Mn metal in the catalyst is quite stable. Keywords: blending, catalyst , metal complexes, zinc oxide, manganese chloride
