Abstract

Faculty of Dentistry Andalas University Padang Script, April 2014 MELISA FRISTY EFFENDI, 1010341008 Test Inhibition Power of Alpinia galanga L.Willd Toward the Growth of Candida albicans Fungus ix + 44 Pages + 9 Images + 5 Tables + 4 Attachments ABSTRACT White galangal (Alpinia galanga L.Willd) is fungicidal because it contains terpenoids, alkoloid, flavonoids, saponins, and tannins. Those can be used to inhibit the growth of the fungus Candida albicans which causes oral candidiasis. The purpose of this study was to determine the inhibitory level of white ginger infusum in a concentration of 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100% to the growth of the fungus Candida albicans. The method used is an experimental laboratory. Infusum was made by using distilled water solvent. Measurement is done by measuring the inhibition clear zone formed by using calipers. The study design uses analytic comparison with ANOVA statistical test. The results showed, white ginger infusum concentration 75% and 100%, has a power resistor with medium category (average diameter 5 mm and 10 mm), while white ginger infusum concentration of 25% and 50% has a power resistor with weak category (avarage diameter 1 mm and 3.25 mm) in inhibiting the growth of the fungus Candida albicans. ANOVA statistical test showed significant difference (p <0.05) among the four dosage concentration of white galangal infusum. The conclusion of this study is white galangal infusum (Alpinia galanga L.Willd) has inhibitory power toward growth of the fungus Candida albicans, with a significant difference of inhibitory power (p< 0,05).
