COMPARATIVE OF A COMBINATION OF BRUSHING AND XYLITOL MOUTHWASH WITH BRUSHING AND WITHOUT XYLITOL MOUTHWASH ON PLAQUE INDEX

ABSTRACT
Dental plaque is the main cause of caries and periodontal disease.The way to remove plaque was applying mechanical methoded that isbrushing and chemically gargling with mouthwash. Antimicrobial mouth rinses can be use to controlling plaque of caries. The purpose of this study is to determine comparative of a combination of brushing and xylitol mouthwash with brushing and without xylitol mouthwash on plaque index in FKG Unand student 2010.
The method of this research is quasi experiment with pre and post test design. The data collection were held in March 2014. The population of this research is FKG Unand student with 32 sample size who were taken by means simple random sampling. Analysis of data was using Wilxocon SR Test, T-Test and Mann Whitney Test as significantbased on 0,05.
The research show that average plaque index of before and after the combination of brushing and xylitol mouthwash showed a significant difference to the value p<0,05, and average plaque index before and after the brushing and without xylitol mouthwash showed a significant difference to the value p<0,05. In analysis of data Mann Whitney Test, plaque index difference between before and after treatment in both groups showed the absence of significant difference with the value p=0,22 (p>0,05).
The combination technic of brushing and rinsing with mouthwash the suggestion to reducing plaque index in to wake cleanliness tooth and mouth.
