x ABSTRAK Proses Translasi Perkembangan Akun Twitter InfoSumbar (Studi Actor Network Theory) Oleh : Muhammad Fadhli 0910862026 Pembimbing : Prof. Dr. Afrizal, M.A Yayuk Lestari, S.Sos, M.A Perkembangan teknologi menimbulkan perubahan cara berkomunikasi. New media atau internet kemudian memunculkan trend berkomunikasi yang baru melalui sebuah layanan pertemanan yang diakses secara online, dikenal dengan istilah social network. Di twitter, InfoSumbar adalah salah satu akun yang memfasilitasi dan memberikan informasi dan berita tentang daerah Sumatra Barat. InfoSumbar mengembangkan sebuah jaringan yang beranggotakan lebih dari 80.000 orang. Penelitian ini menjelaskan perkembangan jaringan infoSumbar sesuai empat tahapan yang disebut dengan proses translasi berdasarkan kajian Actor Network Theory. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif deskriptif yang menjelaskan bagaimana admin (pengelola) infoSumbar mengoptimalkan kemampuan social network untuk menyusun strategi sehingga dapat mengembangkan jaringannya menjadi akun twitter terbesar di Sumatra Barat. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa admin infoSumbar mengembangkan jaringan secara bertahap. Admin infoSumbar awalnya hanya memberikan berita nasional dan daerah yang dirangkum dari berbagai media massa. Kemudian admin melakukan upaya persuasi untuk memunculkan inisiatif pengikutnya (followers) dan membuat sebuah metode untuk saling berbagi informasi. Dengan cara ini, konten infoSumbar menjadi lebih variatif, tidak hanya berita. Kemudian infoSumbar juga menjadi media partner bagi pihak-pihak yang ingin berpromosi melalui twitter. Admin memanfaatkan budaya lokal Minangkabau sebagai daya tarik, seperti membuat acara pantun minang dan diskusi bertema daerah. Dalam menjalankan akun twitter infoSumbar, admin memanfaatkan aplikasi TweetDeck, HootSuite, dan SocialOomph pada komputer, laptop, dan smartphone mereka agar pengelolaan akun menjadi lebih efisien dan efektif. Kemudian diketahui juga bahwa followers InfoSumbar tergolong kepada sebuah cyber community yang menggunakan fitur-fitur twitter sebagai pranata dan kontrol sosial kehidupan mereka di dunia maya. New Media or Internet has emerged a new trend of communication through online friendship services called social network. One of the twitter account which provides information and news about West Sumatera is InfoSumbar. Currently, it has developed a network consists of more than 80.000 people. This final project explicates the development of that InfoSumbar’s network devided into four stages named Translation Process, according to the study of Actor Netwok Theory. This study usedqualitative descriptive method that explaining the InfoSumbar adminstrator’s way of working in optimizing the social network ability to manage a strategy, in order to pursue its vison to become the biggest twitter account in West Sumatera. This study concluded that InfoSumbar administrator develops his network gradually. At first, the adminsitrator only released both national and local news collected from various resources. After that, the adminstrator persuaded his followers to report and share every piece of information about West Sumatera that they have. Every information from the followers will be spread by the administrator by using re-tweeting mechanism. This leads to a highly varied content including actual news, tips and tricks, live reports, and other info.InfoSumbar can also be used as a media partner for those who want to promote their events and activities. InfoSumbar also utilizes the local culture of Minangkabau in form of traditional poems competition and local culture-themed discussion, as its appeal to attract more followers. In administrating the account, the InfoSumbar administrator uses several twitter client applications like Tweetdeck, HootSuite, and SocialOomph. These applications can be accessed from any devices like computer, notebook, or smartphone so the process of managing the account will be more efficient and efffective. Then note also that the followers of InfoSumbar is a cyber community that uses features of twitter as an institution and social control of their lives in cyberspace.
