Abstract

THE CONTRIBUTION OF THE COUPLE AND CHILDREN SOCIAL SUPPORT TO PSYCHOLOGICAL WELL-BEING OF ELDERLY Rizka Amelia1) Niken Hartati. S.Psi. MA.2)Kuswardani S.P. M.Si. Psikolog2) ABSTRACT The period of the elderly characterized by various changes in physical, psychological, and social.That case is susceptible to invite the physicological effect. So it is needed one way to overcome and solve that problem to keep the hoped of life of the elderly. One way to do is to achieve optimal psychological well-being by providing social support for the elderly. The social support comes from many sources, elderly should have contact to other that has been known and have happiness like couple and children because they emphasize emotional satisfied so the sources of different support can cause different well-being elderly. Based on that factor, so the purpose of this research is to know contribution of couple and children social support to Psychological Well-Being to elderly. The population of this research is the elderly in Kelurahan Nankodok, and Kelompok Lansia Pensiunan Pemerhati Pendidikan in Kota Payakumbuh. They are 66 respondents. Technique used in selecting sample is probability sampling, with saturated sampling. Data was collected through psychological well-being scale and social support of a couple and their children scale. Data analysis technique used was regression analysis and categorisation. Based on the analysis of the date contained significant contribution between social support from the couple and children to the psychological well-being of the elderly. Social support from couple give contribution about 64,1% to, social support from children is 60,4 %, and all together the social support of couple and children is 73 % to psychological well-being elderly. In addition, the result of the date analysis illustrates the elderly have social support from couple, social support from the children, and psychological well-being is categorized high.
