Abstract

METAPHOR IN MINANG SONG CREATED BY SYAHRUL TARUN YUSUF By : Desi Ratna Sari (Supervisor I: Dr. Fajri Usman, M. Hum., Supervisor II: Dr. Ike Revita, M. Hum.) ABSTRACT This thesis aims to describe and explain the form, meaning and function of metaphor containing in the song created by Syahrul Tarun Yusuf (Satayu). This research is descriptive qualitative. The data are metaphor in Minang song and source of data is a song created by Satayu. The method used is non observational method (SBLC) by using recording and note taking techniques. The methods of analyzing data are translational, referential and pragmatic identity methods. Further, to present the result of analysis data writer uses formal and informal methods. Theory used to analyze the form of the metaphor is a Haley’s theory that divides into nine forms of metaphor. In analyzing the meaning of the metaphor uses Roland Barthes' theory and function theory of metaphor uses Leech’s theory. Based on the results of analysis it can be concluded that there are eight forms of metaphors, they are: (1) being, (2) energy, (3) substance, (4) terrestrial, (5) object, (6) living, (7) animate and (8) human. Metaphor for human and object are found dominantly. It is interpreted that Satayu’s songs generally tell about the reality of life that contains a variety of human emotions attributed. Therefore, the dominant form that arises is on the nature of human cognition. In addition, the song's creations Minang Satayu represent local conditions and culture of Minangkabau which is reflected from the objects that appear in the lyrics. Meanings found in Minang song created by Satayu are denotation and connotation meanings. Meaning that the majority arise about love and suffering. Furthermore, the functions of metaphor that emerge are informative, expressive, directive, phatic and aesthetic functions. The most common function is expressive that aims to describe the feeling of the author. Keywords: metaphor, song, form, meaning and function.
