ABSTRACT
The purpose of this research is to implement a real-time room monitoring system using microcontroller platform Arduino and Android based mobile device. Implemented system consists of 3 main components: monitoring device, server, and Android based mobile device used by the user. The monitoring device consists of webcam, Arduino, and PIR sensor. In order to achieve real-time requirement, video data captured by webcam is transferred to the user in H.264 standard video format. Video streaming in user device is achieved using progressive download and play technology. Data collected from this experiment shows that video delay is greater that 150 ms (maximum delay for a real-time video streaming). It means that the implemented system haven’t met real-time system requirement.
