Abstract
ABSTRACT ISOLATION AND ANTIOXIDANT ASSAY OF SECONDARY METABOLITE COMPOUND FROM THE LEAVES OF Fagraea ceilanica Thunb. by: Rian Wahyu (BP : 0910412032) Bustanul Arifin, M.Si and Dr. Afrizal Isolation of secondary metabolite compound from the leaves of Fagraea ceilanica Thunb. which belonged to coumarins group have been done. Isolation is done by the maceration method with methanol as solvent, fractionation of extract with n-hexane, ethyl acetate and water then followed by column chromatography of ethyl acetate fraction. Antioxidant assay result by antiradical DPPH method showed that all fractions has very weak antioxidant activity. Form of isolated compound is white solid obtained from ethyl acetate fraction. This compound has melting point in the range of 140,7 - 140,9oC and is estimated based on UV spectrum has absorption of carbonyl and benzene core. The IR spectrum showed the presence of –OH functional groups, C=O stretching, C-H bending, nitrile and ester functional groups. The result of antioxidant assay on isolated compound showed IC50 value 4098 μg/ml. Keywords: Fagraea ceilanica Thunb., coumarins, antioxidant
