Abstract

ABSTRACT α-mangostin is a marker compound found in pericarp and bark of the mangosteen (Garcinia mangostana L.). Differences in the content of the organs of plants and the level of maturity of the fruit cause differences in the quantity of these compounds. Levels of α-mangostin on any part of the plant have a relationship to the activity of α-mangostin compounds. Therefore, the determination of the levels of α-mangostin from young pericarp, old pericarp, and bark extract mangosteen by TLC-densitometry. Dissociation with TLC Densitometry using Silicalgel F254 as stationary phase and the mixture of Chloroform : Methanol (10 : 0,1) as mobile phase. α-mangostin levels in young pericarp extract 4,19%, old pericarp extract 15,85% and bark extract 3,88%.
