Pasaran terhadap Staphylococcus aureus secara In Vitro

Propolis merupakan produk olahan lebah yang berasal dari resin dan lilin
lebah (bee wax). Propolis sering digunakan di masyarakat sebagai obat kumur
untuk membunuh bakteri dalam mulut dan mempercepat penyembuhan luka
akibat infeksi. Diketahui sifat antibakteri dari propolis disebabkan oleh kandungan
flavonoid yang tinggi di dalamnya. Sifat antibakteri propolis memiliki efek
terhadap beberapa bakteri, diantaranya Staphylococcus aureus. Di pasaran
terdapat dua jenis propolis, yaitu propolis cair dan propolis padat. Masyarakat
belum mengetahui secara jelas mana yang lebih baik diantara kedua jenis
propolis. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menemukan perbedaan efek antibakteri
propolis cair dan propolis padat yang ada di pasaran terhadap Staphylococcus
aureus secara in vitro.
Penelitian ini dilakukan di laboratorium Mikrobiologi Fakultas
Kedokteran Universitas Andalas Padang pada bulan Januari 2013 sampai Januari
2014. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah eksperimental dengan menggunakan
metode difusi sumur (well diffusion) dan dianalisis dengan menghubungkan
perbedaan efek antibakteri kedua jenis propolis.
Hasil dari penelitian ini didapatkan rata-rata daya hambat propolis cair
terhadap bakteri Staphylococcus aureus adalah 16,44 mm dan rata-rata daya
hambat propolis padat adalah 18,67 mm. Kemudian dilakukan analisis data untuk
mencari apakah perbedaan daya hambat tersebut bermakna secara statistik dengan
menggunakan uji independent t-test. Hasil analisis menunjukan terdapat
perbedaan yang bermakna antara Propolis Cair (A) dengan Propolis Padat (B)
dimana nilai signifikansi p ≤ 0,05 (p=0,005).
Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini adalah efek antibakteri propolis padat lebih baik
dibandingkan propolis cair.

ABSTRACT
Differences of Antibacterial Effects between Liquid Propolis and Solid
Propolis on the Market to Staphylococcus aureus by In Vitro

Propolis is a product of bee derived from resin and bee wax. Propolis is
used by people as a mouthwash to kill bacteria of mouth and accelerate the
healing of wounds caused by an infection. Antibacterial of propolis due to the
high flavonoid in it. Antibacterial of propolis has an effect on some bacteria, such
as Staphylococcus aureus. In the market, there are two types of propolis, they are
liquid propolis and solid propolis. People do not know which one is better
between the two types of propolis. This study purposes to find the differences of
antibacterial effect between liquid propolis and solid propolis on the market to
Staphylococcus aureus by in vitro.
This research was done in the laboratory of Microbiology, Faculty of
Medicine, Andalas University, Padang in January 2013 to January 2014. The type
of research is experimental by using the well diffusion method and analyzed by
correlating the differences of antibacterial effect between both types of propolis.
The results of this research are the average of inhibition of liquid propolis
to Staphylococcus aureus is 16,44 mm and the average of inhibition of solid
propolis is 18,67 mm. Thus, data was analyzed to find whether the differences of
inhibition was statistically significant or not, by independent t-test. The results of
the analysis showed significant difference between Liquid Propolis (A) and Solid
Propolis (B), and the significance value was p≤0,05 (p=0,005).
The conclusion of this research is the antibacterial effect of solid propolis
is better than liquid propolis.
