Abstract

Three series of research were conducted to evaluate the potential use of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) from waste processing Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO) as probiotics in poultry. The researches aimed to obtain LAB potentially be used as probiotics in poultry. The results of the first research showed that from waste of VCO processing has been isolated LAB were identified as Lactococcus plantarum. Biological test in broilers showed that using Lactococcus platarum affected intestinal microflora. The higher dose is used caused the number of LAB increased and decresaed the number of E. coli and Salmonella sp. and affected feed intake, weight gain, gain and feed conversion ratio. Using 1,0ml dose of Lactococcus plantarum gave the best performance with weight gain 1974.08 ± 32.60 g and feed conversion ratio 1,87 ± 0,04. but the 1,5 ml dose caused the lowest abdominal fat (1,35 ± 0,21%). The ability of Lactococcus plantarum improved broiler performance was better than the commercial probiotics tested. Lactococcus plantarum had ability to improve performance production and egg quality of layer better than the commercial probiotic test.
