Abstract

Determining of fertilizer recommendation of a cropping land will require soil physical, chemical properties, and crop environmental researches, because of the efficiency of fertilizer application depend upon a kind of crops, soil type, climate, topography, time and method of fertilizer application. A research was conducted in Solok, Tanah Datar and Agam District West Sumatra lasted January to August 2002. Soil analysis was done in Soil Science Labo¬ratory, Faculty of Agriculture Andalas University. Survey method was used inverstigating soil physical and chemical properties and environmental condition in horticultural producing center in West Sumatra. The selection of the soil sampling site of the nine locations of three districts by using purposive random sampling method. Composite soil sampling was taken by auger as 20 cm depth with using zigzag system. Composite soil sampling was collected from 4-5 auger holes and all of sample was mixed fully and take one sample for laboratory analysis. Number of collected sample was 36 samples. The entire sample was analyzed in laboratory. Soil chemical analysis in this study was pH with pH meter, N-total by using kjeidhal titration, oOr¬ganic carbon with Walkley and Black method, availability of phosphor with Bray II method, Cation exchange ca¬pacity and Ca, Mg, K and Na exchangeable with ammo¬nium acetate leaching pH 7.0, and base saturation. Result of the research showed that pH are ranging acid to slightly acid, organic carbon are ranging medium to high, N-total are usually medium except for Danau Kembar county, cation exchange capacity and base saturation are usually medium, availability of phosphor is high, Ca ex¬changeable are low, Mg exchangeable are ranging medi¬um to high, K and Na exchangeable are very high. Fertil¬ity status of all of location is medium. Suggested generally fertilizer recommendation are 120-150 kg/ha Urea, 100-125 kg/ha SP 36 and 75-100 kg/ha KCl. This recommenda¬tion was only based on soil analysis result, not yet deter¬mined for every horticulture crops. Key words: soil fertility, horticultural
