Abstract

Early sprout of curly red chilli (Capsicum annum L.) and small chilli (C. frutescens L.) were induced by colchicine to produces tetraploid plant. The early sprouts were treated by 0.0%, 0.01%, 0.025% and 0.05% colchicine during 24 hours. The results showed that a teatment of 0,025% colchicine is effective to induce tetraploid plant. The treatment causes the swollen root tip (a morphological tetraploid indication) in curly red and small chillis are 90,82% and 89,47% in respectivelly. The chromosome numbers in swollen root tip cells of all sprouts are doubled. By follows accounting of chromosome numbers in bud anther cells of the plants were got tetraploid curly red and small chillis are 95,83% and 100% respectivelly. The tetraploid plants are shorter, stem diameter are bigger, leave and corrola size more wider and longer, while early flowering time more later compare to their diploid plant.
