Abstract

The experiment was conducted in Tissue Culture Labora-tory Department of Agronomy Faculty of Agriculture Andalas University from May to September 2004. The objective of the experiment was to obtain the best concentration of cytokinine BAP for bud induction of ramie. Treatments were arranged in Factorial experiment 2 x 5 in Completely Randomized Design with five replica-tions. The first factor was two kinds of bud namely: auxiliary bud = t0 and rhizomatous bud = t1, while the se-cond factor consisted of five levels of cytokinine concen-tration namely: 0 mg/l = b0, 1 mg/l = b1, 2 mg/l = b2, 3 mg/l = b3, and 4 mg/l = b4. Results showed that concen-trations of cytokinine cannot promote budding of ramie either through auxiliary bud or rhizomatous bud. However, cytokinine at 3 and 4 mg/l increased budding of ramie as much as 6 %. Key words: rami, Boehmeria nivea,cytokinine
