Abstract

Land use is a reflection of the land management that exploited the land in order to produce food, fiber and other matters that it is needed for human life. Sometimes, the people using land without pay attention about capability of the land. Most of their activity can increase soil degradation, soil erosion hazard, and the rapidly deteriorating quality of the environment. A research was conducted to study and evaluate the soil physical properties under different land use type The location of the research is Lembang Jaya and Danau Kembar county Solok District West Sumatra Province, Survey method is used to collecting data to describe soil physical properties under different land use type in this research. The location of soil sampling is assumed that the location are in the soil type Andisol and same slope classes (15-25%). Undisturbed soil sampling is used to determine soil physical properties and composite soil sampling is used to analyze soil chemical properties (texture and C-Organic). Determining site of soil sampling based on purposive random sampling method. .Soil sample was analyzed in Department of Soil Science Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, Andalas University and Sukarami Central Research of Food Crop Laboratory. Land use type variable studied are mixed garden (Kc), arable land (Tg), bush land (Smk), and plantation (Th). The result of the research show that soil permeability under bush land (Smk) and arable land (Tg) more higher than another land use type, Carbon organic content and soil porosity have order from higher to lower as follow: plantation (Th) > bush land (Smk) > mixed garden (Kc) > arable land (Tg). This value opposite for soil bulk density. Soil porosity have order as follow as like arable land (Tg) > mixed garden (Kc) > bush land (Smk) > plantation (Th). Aeration pore have order as follow as like plantation (Th) > bush land (Smk) > mixed garden (Kc) > arable land (Tg), and for slow drainage pore are arable land (Tg) > plantation (Th)> mixed garden (Kc) > bush land (Smk). Furthermore, availability water pore have order as follow: plantation (Th) > arable land (Tg) > mixed garden (Kc) > bush land (Smk). Thus, in above description can be concluded that soil physical properties under the plantation is better than another land use type, and soil physical properties under arable land is worse.
