Abstract

Experiment on substitution of nitrogen of urea with tithonia (Tithonia diversifolia) and it’s effect on the growth of young gambir (Uncaria gambir Roxb.) plant was con¬ducted at Faculty of Agriculture experimental garden, Andalas University, from June to October 2002. The ob¬jective of the experiment was to obtain the best percentage of nitrogen substitution with tithonia on the growth of gambir. Treatments were arranged in Randomized Block Design (RBD) with six treatments and three replications. Data observed were analyzed with F test and continued with Duncan's New Multiple Range Test (DNMRT) at 5% level. Treatments were percentage of substitution of nitro¬gen of urea with tithonia, as follow : control, substitution 0% with tithonia, substitution 25% with tithonia, substitu¬tion 50% with tithonia, substitution 75% with tithonia, substitution 100% with tithonia. Result indicated that ni¬trogen substitution 100% with tithonia gave the best growth to gambir plant. Key words: Tithonia, gambir, nitrogen
