Abstract

The experiment was aimed at determining preliminary information on various types of banana, local and hybrid, at Agam Municipality the Province of West Sumatra as well as at studying relatedness amongst those genotypes. The experiment used Purposive Stratified Sampling method. Ten percent of population of banana grower were sampled in each kenagarian. Results found 15 types of banana at Agam Municipality, i.e. 1) Pisang Sirandah (having tall trunk), 2) Pisang Sirandah (short trunk and popularly known as Pisang Ateng), 3) Pisang Talua, 4) Pisang Lidi, 5) Pisang Rajo Sarai, 6) Pisang Kalek, 7) Pisang Batu, 8) Pisang Tinalun, 9) Pisang Rajo, 10) Pisang Gadang, 11) Pisang Tanduak, 12) Pisang Kota, 13) Pisang Palapah, 14) Pisang Puluik, dan 15) Pisang Jantan. Relatedness analysis at 61.40 similarities indicated that there were two groups of banana. The first group consist only of one genotype and the rest were in one group. At 74.27 similarities analysis, four groups of banana were determined, i.e. one big group of various genotypes and three gorup of single genotype each.
