Abstract

The teaching and training on writing skill are aimed to deepen creativities among children in Panti Asuhan Muhammadiyah Pauh V Kelurahan Binuang Kampung Dalam district of Pauh Padang. This writing skill exercise is conducted, aiming to give writing skill knowledge as a tool of practical skill. The first stage of this training is providing reading materials to improve children’s interest toward their reading interest. This stage is done in considering that writing skill has close relation with reading activity. Both skills are dependent and cannot be separated. The teaching and training are conducted using explaining and teaching method, focusing on the importance of reading and effective reading method, and later on continued by writing exercise. The technical support used in this training is by giving training material and then followed by exercise. The children are also given a free space to write about anything and the tutors give comment on their papers. The contents of comments are based on choosing of topic, language use, spelling, grammar, and dictions. Reviewed from their papers, there are some conclusion made here; the children are able to express their experiences in written language, express their thought, feeling, and imagination both fictionally and non-fictionally forms. Furthermore, the children consider that writing skill needs a long process. This skill has to be practiced in their everyday life.
