Abstract

Dipterocarpaceae is one of the dominant and economically important tree families in the Tropical Rainforest especially Indonesia. In the lowland hill of the vacinity of Padang area the number of this family such as Hopea, Shorea and Dipterocarpus occur together with the number of Lauraceae and Fagaceae. In order to know the number of species and their dominance in this area, a field study had been conducted in Bukit Gajabuih, Padang. The result of this study indicated that the member of Dipteropaceae family in this area become more important for the future due to their ability to adapt with environmental condition. Based on the total number of trees,it was that the study area still belongs to a Lauro-fagaceous commounity.
