Abstract

Factors affecting risk in running a layering-egg chicken business have been identified among those business in District of Limapuluh Kota, West Sumatra. The findings reveal that fluctuation in input price strongly affecting risk of layer production in terms of production cost, which intern affecting the profit.Socio-economic characters of the producers who were able to anticipate this risk were also identified. These characters are; experience in running the business, education attainment, and sources of income indicated by percentage of income from layer production. It is suggested that to control the input price, increasing farm sizes and at the same develops farmer group.
