Abstract
The formation of silica gel through sol-gel process has been studied at room temperature. The volume ratio of TEOS : H2O : HCl (0,1 M) is 1,0 : 2,0 : 0,3. From the studies, the optimum pH for the formation of silica gel is between pH 4 to pH 5. the silica was characterized by thermogravimetry analysis (TGA), Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and the Fourier transformation infra-red (FT-IR). It was observed that the surface of silica gel prepared at pH 4 – 5 was homogen and without cract even after dryingfor 10 days at 40°C
