Abstract

The population srudies of acarina in the biological research and education forest of Andalas University was carried out during August until September 1993. The litter samples were taken five times in plots 15x15 cm2 on three biotopes (forest,shrub, and field) 20x20 m2 every week. The acarina 'were extracted by modification Berlese-Tulgren Funnells during 48-72 hours. The result of this scudy showed that the acarina population was more abundant in forest litter than in shrub and field litter. The number of oribatid mite (ordo Cryptostigmata) was most dominant, followed by the Mesostigmata and Astigmata. The similariry index of acarina populations between forest and shrub biotopes were relatively larger,and smaller in the forest and field. The diversity index of acarina were relarger in the forest and shrub.
