Abstract

The research on The Effect of PIR-Trans on household (HH) income and expenses in Sawahlunto / Sijunjung district was held in 1997. Inforrnation and data were collected through direct interview with 30 unit HH samples. The objectives of this research were to identifying source of household's income, household income level, and the pattern of household expenses. The findings reveal that average household income was Rp. 3.321.128/year. This level was above poverty threshold set forth by Central Bureau of Statistic and implies that standard of living of PlR-Trans household is much better that average rural household in Indonesia. Agricultural was a main source of income and contributes about 90.72% of total household income, out of this oil palm farming played important role as source of farm income with 67.89% contribution. the rest were being services ( 5.97 %o ) and trade ( 3.41 % ). Unfortunately, a big portion of income was still being spent for consumption ( 86.25% ) where expenses for food and non - food were almost equal, 40.50% and,45.75% respectively. The PIR-Trans household have not yet considered saving an investment as an important economic activity, and their saving rate and investment were only 4.80% and 7,61% respectively.
