Abstract

A field experiment to test the yield potential of several kinds of West Sumatra local sugar cane (Saccaharum officinarum L.) was conducted at Limau Manis Agricultural Experiment Station Faculty of Agriculture Andalas University Padang during the period of December 1999 to June 2000. Treatments were aronged in Randomized Block Design with six treatments and three replications. Data were analyzed statistically using F-test and then fol- lowed by lluncan's New Multiple Range Test at 57o level. Several kinds of West Sumatra local sugar cane as treat- ments were Tebu Gula (ASA l), Tebu Talang (ASA 2), Tebu Kuning Garis Hijau (ASA 3), Tebu Merah Anggur (ASA 4), Tebu Hitam Besar (ASA 5) and Tebu Hitam Kecil (ASA 6). Results indicated that there were signifi- cant differences on vegetative growth such as on plant height, number of leaf, length of the longest leaf, width of the widest leaf, number of shoot, stem fresh weight, stem dry weight and sugar yield per hectare. However, sugar contcnt, soluble solid and rendcmen were relatively the same. Tebu Merah Anggur (ASA 4) and Tebu Hitam Besar (ASA 5) have thc highcr yield potential compared to others, indicated by stem fresh weight and sugar yield perhectare.
