Abstract

A study on comperative diuretic effect and the sodium and potassium blood levels between the administration the aethanolic extract of tempuyung leaves (Sonchus arvensis Linn) and furosemide on 7 groups of male wistar rats has been done. Three groups were given various doses of the aethanolic extract of tempuyung leaves (100; 300 and 1000 mg/kgBW respectively), three other groups were given furosemide with with the doses of 0.36; 0.72 and 1.14 mg/kgBW had highest diuretic effect (6.85 mL) in comparison to furosemide 0.72 mg/kg BW (6.575 ml) and control (5.075 ml). The lowest natrium and potassium blood levels of 7.21 and 4.58 ppm respectively after the administration of 0.72 mg/kgBW furosemida (these of control were 8.45 ppm and 5.01 ppm for sodium and potassium level respectively. In summary the extract of tempuyung leave at doses 300 mg/kgBW showed a stronger diuretic effect that furosemide at doses 0.72 mg/kgBW. Keywords : Sonchus arvensis, diuretic.
