Abstract

A study on the soil acarina in three biotopes (forest, shrub, and field) in Biological Research, and Education Forest (HPPB), Andalas University was carried out from August 1994 until January 1995. The samples of soil were taken radomly with soil core borer diameter 7.5 cm, until l2 cm depth on each biotopes 20 x20 m2, and then to divided within three strata i.e., A (0-4 cm), B (4-8 cm), and C (8-12 cm). The acarina from soils were extracted by modification Berlese-Tulgren Funnells as long as 48-72 hours. The result of this study showed that the acarina population more abundant in strata A of forest than shrub, and field biotopes. The number of oribatid mite (Cryptostigmata order) most dominant, and then followed by the Mesostigmata, and Astigmata orders. The diversity of soil acarina on each strata of forest biotope was relative larger than shrub, flfld field biotope. The similarity of acarina population between forest and shrub were relative larger, and smaller in forest and field.
