Abstract

Gambir has been found to be effective against Staphylococcus mutans which associated wuth the prevention of plague formation (Kozai, 1995). This paper reports formulation of catechin, a major component of gambir, as antiseptic gargled solution. Due to catechin’s poor solubility and stability, two dry dosage forms were made : effervescent granules (F1) and instant powder with separated solvent (F2). Evaluation of dosage forms showed that both dried formulas showed good powder properties.
