Abstract

This study is concerned with the analysis of pasambahan kamatian text at Minangkabau society especially to the people for whom residing in Padang city (one of the cities in Minangkabau, West Sumatera). The main concern of this study is to clucidate the meanings of aspects of lexical cohesian in the text of pasambahan kamatian in Padang City related to the civilization and culture of Minangkabau as well as Islam religion. To achieve this purpose, this analysis uses the theory of Halliday (1991,; 1978) and Halliday and Ruqaiya Hasan (1976; 1985) in the analysis of text of pasambahan kamatian of Padang city society. A number of informants were also interviewed in order to gain information about latent meanings stated behind the linguistics of the text.
