Abstract

The research was conducted at peat soils area, Kasang Lopak Village Kumpeh, Batanghari Regency, Jambi from November 1998 to March 1999. Randomized Block Design with 9 treatments and three replications were used in this experiment. The treatments are: A: (alofan 15 ton/ha), B : (kaolin 15 ton/ha), C : (rice barn ashes 10 ton/ha), D : (saw dust 7,5 ton/ha), E: (alofan 15 ton/ha + rice barn ashes 10 ton/ha), F : (alofan 15 ton/ha + saw dust 7,5 ton/ha), G : (kaolin 15 ton/ha + rice barn ashes 7,5 ton/ha), H : (kaolin 15 ton/ha + saw dust 7,5 ton/ha), and I : control (no treatment) The observed parameters involved all aspect of growth, soybean production and chemical properties of soils. The result revealed that the treatment of any levels of kinds of ameliorans and ashes was not significant effect on crop height, branch, flower number, leaf area and stem diameter of soybean, but there were highly significant on nurnber of effective nodule, grain, weight of 100 seeds, and was significant on grain yield component. Number of effective root nodules were 5,00 - 83167, number of seeds 20,00 - 72,00, weight of 100 seeds 77,54 - 98,96 g, and the Bverage yield was 0,32 – 1,48 ton ha-1 . The analysis of component of soils chemical properties showed that pH was 3,21 - 4,72 , N total was low to intermediaten P availability was low to very high, K availability was very low. Cation exchange capacity (CEC) was very low and Aluminum exchangeable was 1,00 - 1,78. The highest yield was obtained by combination treatment of alofan soils + rice barn ashes i.e. 1148 ton ha-1 .
