Abstract

The assessment were carried out on the farmers rice field at Koto Panjang, Padang, West Sumatra on rainy season 1996/1997. Randomised Block Design with 4 treatments and 4 replications were implemented for this purpose. The treatments were : l). without starter fertilizer, 2). P (SP-36) starter, 3). NP (Ammonium phosphate)-starter, and 4). NPK (Nitrophoska) starter. Treatments without starter fertilizing were given the base fertilizer namely 150 kg Urea + 100 kg SP-36 and 50 kg KCI/ha, while on treat- ments with starter fertilizing were given 150 kg/ha Urea. The results showed that starter fertilizing significantly increased the total of rice grain per stalk and weight of 1.000 grain, but not on the other parameters. Application of P and NPK starter increased rice yield up to 0,68 t/ha and 0,88 t/ha compared to with out starter fertilizing.
