Abstract

The low content of macro nutrients and high content of iron in the soil have shown as constraints for lowland production on red yellow podsolic (RYP) soil. Field experiments were conducted at farmers field Sitiung V Wesf Sumatera On Dry Season (DS) 1995 and Wet Season (WS) 1995/96. Thirteen treatments were arranged in Randomized Complete Block Design with three replications. The treatments consist of : 1) without starter fertilizer, 2). starter with 1% of NP (Ammonium phosphate)o 3). starter with 2% of NP, 4). starter with 3% of NP, 5). starter with 5% of NP, 6). starter with 1% of NK (Chilean Potassium Nitrat),7), starter with2% of NK, 8). starfer with 3% of NK, 9). starter with 5% of NK, 10). starter with 1% on NPK (Nitrophoska), 11). starter with 2% of NPK, 12). starter with 3% OF NPK, and 13). starter with 5% of NPK. The roots of rice seedling was dipping in mud witn containing starter fertilizer (following treatments) at planting time.Initial soil analysis was indicated that newly opened soil of Sitiung V, West Sumatera was marginal, wit low contents of P, K, Ca, and Mg, but high content of iron. Result showet that sources and rates of starter fertilizer were significantly effected of yield components and grain yield of lowland rice on both planting seasons (DS. 1995 and WS. 1995196). The highest grain yield was found with application of 3% of NK (Chilean potassium nitrat) on both planting season, hut did not significantly different compared to 2% of NK application.
