Abstract

This writing tries to discuss mantra in Minangkabau language. By using the theory of metaphor, the writer talks about the transposition of the meaning of metaphor and the illocutionary meaning in mantra. The data are taken from some of Minangkabau mantra. The result of the analysis indicates that transposition of meaning is realized through emotive lexical and the changing of word order. Meanwhile, the types of illocutionary meaning is assertive, directive and expressive.
