Abstract

Minangkabau as an ethnic, has many oral tradition such as proverb, oral literature, traditional speech, and legend, especially legend of name of regions, ethiology. And the name are expressed in Minangkabau language. On the other side, officially the government use Bahasa Indonesia to the region. Sometimes sounds funny. It is interested to discuss: firstly, is the using Bahasa Indonesia make difference in meaning. Secondly, can the change keep its aesthetic value or'historical' value adhere in the first language. The third, how can the different regions have similar name. Changing the word from Minang linguage to Indonesian make difference meaning. Not only meaning, some of it are not sound even in Minang nuance nor in Indonesia nuance. The changing is also disappear its aesthetic nuance and 'historical' nuance. Actually, the similarity of name of some region has its own history firstly, because of migration: the migrant bring their origin country name to the new place. Secondly, because of similartopography of the two places.
