Abstract

A field experiment was conducted at the experimental Station of the Centre for Oil Palm Research, Aek Pancur, Medan, using 8 years oil palm trees from 1996 to 1997. By counting the 32P content in small plant samples of 2 g it was possible to determine the efficiency of SP-36 in the oil palm trees. The SP-36 efliciency was calculated for rates of 0.75, 1.50, and 2.25 kg SP-36 respectivelyn applied at two dilfferent distances namely, 1.50 m and 2.50 m from the stem of the oil palm trees. Data obtained showed that the highest efficiency for SP-36 was for the lowest rate of SP-36 (0.75 kg) placed at the shortest distance (1.5 m) from the tree stem. While the lowest efficiency was shown by the highest of SP-36 (2.25 kg) placed at the longest dis- tance (2.5 m) from the tree stem.
