Abstract

A study on aggregation of algal mats on the artificial substrate in the river of HPPB area of Andalas University had been conducted since November 1999 to January 2000. The substrate made from mixing of sand and cement 10x10x2 cm3 in (ubin) size were exposured in the water for 2,4,6, and 8 weeks. The five sample of Attached algal mats on the substrat were collected by brushing method. During the research, trvo species of algae ie. Spirogyrq crassa and S. fluviatilis were found, and S. fluviatilis was dominant on the substrate. Biomass and persent coverage of algae on the substate tend to increase up to fourth week, and decrease after that. Key Word: Agregasi, Alga mat, substrat buatan, persentase tutupan, dan biomasa
