Abstract
Plants of the Annonaceae family are very important sources of edible fruits and material for perfumery and are used in folk medicine in various capacities, such as antitumorial, antimicrobial and antidiarhoeal agents. Enicosanthum membranifolium Sinclair is one of the species from Annonaceae. Based on preliminary screening results, this plant showed activity as anti-microbial agent. The bioassay-guided separation of the n-hexane fraction led to the isolation of anti-bacterial compound. The structure of the compound was confirmed by spectroscopic data and X-ray analysis. The structure of compound having anti-bacterial activity was decided as R-(-) mellein. Keywords: R-(-) mellein, Enicoshanthum membranifolium Sinclair
