Abstract
The effect of organic acids on formation of silica gels by sol-gel process had been studied. The volume ratio of Si(OCZH)+ : H2O : organic acids ( fonnic, acetic, and propionic acid with conce,lrtration of 0,1 M) was 1,0 :2,0 :0,3, respectively. The result showed that the optimum pH was 5. The silica gels were characterized by using scanning electron microscopy and infrared spectromety. It was observed that on pH 5 using acetic acid, the surface of silica gels were homogeneous and no cracking that happened after dqying at 40 oC during 10 days.
