Abstract

Clerodendron siphonanthus R.Br. known in West Sumatera as "pitalo” is, traditionatty used for treatment of rheumatics, asthma and urinary tract disorder. Two flavonoids have been isolated from acid insoluble fraction of its methanolic extrict which showed significant pharmacological activities on Hippocratic test. Based on their spectroscopic data, the less polar component was identified as hispidutin (I) M.p. 235 - 237o C) and the more polar one as scutellarein (II) (M.P. 265 – 277o C). Hispidulin at the dose of 20 mg/kg bw showed CNS depressant activity (16,45 %) while santellarein at the dose of 20 mg/kg bw showed vasoconstriction (33,33%), sympathomimetic (16,66%), muscle relaxant (16,35%) and CNS depressant (13,85%).
