Abstract

The objective of the experiment was to find out the best of explant source and the concentration of IAA. The experiment was conducted at tissue culture laboratory Faculty of Agriculture Andalas University, during February to October 1997. In the first series, the source of explant used were epycotyle, hypocotyle and apical bud cultured in MS media. The best explant sources obtained in first series was used for the second series with four different concentrations of kinetin and IAA i.e.0.25; 0.50 ;0.75 and 1.0 pptn. The experiment were arranged in a completely randomized design and three replication. The results showed that the epycotyle have more shoot number than apical bud and higher in the live explants percentage. The best concentration for shoot and plantlet production were 0.75 ppm of kinetin and 0.75 ppm of auxin. This treatment assures the success of watermelon seedless multiplication. Key Word : IAA, Kinetin, explant.
