Abstract

This article focuses on socio economic studies on flower farmers in the city context. Theoretical aspects for analyzing this study is based on Scott's moral economy of peasant and Popkin's rational peasant Scott's idea is that peasants tend to aversion of risk, meanwhile Popkin's idea is that peasants are risk-taker. The study was based on the empirical research conducted among peasants in Lubuk Minturun, Padang city of west sumatra. By cultivating and trading flowers, peasants in that area settle down their life. Such works become their main livelihood. Results of research shows that mostly peasants can be indicated as rational peasant in Popkin's idea and a small number of them are part of Scott's idea.
