Abstract
Psychological Anthropology focuses study on modal personality of particular ethnic groups. This article deals with psychological or personality of the Minangkabau by using the analysis of traditional words (ungkapan) and customary metaphor (kiasan). This analysis reveals an understanding that ungkapan and kiasan represent ideal values for the Minangkabau behavior, building attitudes and developing feelings. As a matter of fact, those values are strongly influential for the Minangkabau to how they make up their minds, sad feelings, embarrassment, or how they should feel angry, etc.
