Abstract

The evaluation purpose is to study fiber optic system. As a part of the pipeline gas, a dedicated telecommunication system for voice and data communication is required. The Grissik to Pemping pipeline is 484 km long and includes a total of 6 station along the pipeline route. Fibre optic transmission system package is a part of a composite work package for the combined SCADA and Telecommunication systems. Since it is not possible to span a distance 252 km long with a single erbium doped fiber amplifier (EDFA), this section will be implemented using an EDFA / Raman based optical amplifier combination. Careful consideration in the selection of EDFA, transmitter type, receiver sensitivity and Raman amplifier is needed to avoid noise due to non-linier effects in the fiber and to address dispersion and attenuation of the system.
