Abstract

Some scholars argue that economic change, where economy is removed From kinship, weakens kin ties. Others orgue that kin ties is continued to be strong in modern society in that kinship provides networks for people to obtain economic and social support when they are in need in this type of society. By examining kin relation in contemporary Minangkabau society both which lives in rural and urban oreas, this article shows that despite of economic changing ties between members of matrilineal kin groups are still strong.
