Abstract

Arat Sabulungan, the traditional belief of Mentawai is highly affect the adaptation Pattern of the people with its environment and social system- The belief demands people to maintain harmony and balance with human kind and nature. However, the changes of ecology for wide scale deforestation happened in this archipelago distract the belief system. As founded in Muara Saibi (an area in Mentawai), sociolization and internalization of the traditional values, mainly those are connected with the relations between human beings, flora and fauna, are no longer continued.
